For every job Haferman Water Conditioning does, we have one goal in mind: to provide the customer with the finest quality water and service. Whether this is accomplished with a water softener or any other Kinetico product, we want to know that when we’re done, your water is the best it can be.
For the cleaning products used to do laundry and wash dishes, the Environmental Watch Group (EWG) is there to help you determine which products are safe for you and your family. The EWG recently launched its 2012 Guide to Healthy Cleaning, and here’s what it said about the guide and how it came together:
EWG’s Guide to Healthy Cleaning gives you practical solutions to protect yourself and your family from everyday exposures to potentially harmful chemicals. U.S. law allows manufacturers of cleaning products to use almost any ingredient they wish, including known carcinogens and substances that can harm fetal and infant development. And the government doesn’t review the safety of products before they’re sold. To fill those gaps, EWG’s staff scientists compared the ingredients listed on cleaning product labels, websites and worker safety documents with the information available in the top government, industry and academic toxicity databases and the scientific literature on health and environmental problems tied to cleaning products. They used that information to create EWG’s Guide to Healthy Cleaning, which provides you with easy-to-navigate safety ratings for a wide range of cleaners and ingredients.
The organization says over 2,000 products, nearly 200 brands and more than 1,000 ingredients are talked about in the guide with safety assessments and other information about air fresheners, cleaners for bathrooms, floors and kitchens, dishwashing liquids, all-purpose cleaners and much more. The EWG rates products on an A-F scale (like high school), so one quick glance at the letter can give you a good idea of what organization thinks about a particular cleaner or product.
If you’re worried about the quality of your dishwashing liquid or laundry detergent, then the EWG’s guide is definitely something to consider taking a look at. The organization invested a lot of time and energy and did a great job putting this information together, and if you have children or little ones living in your home, it’s worthwhile reading.
