Beat the heat with better drinking water

As temperatures rise, we’re spending more time outdoors. Whether you’re preparing to run a marathon or just hanging out around the lake with friends, it’s especially important to stay hydrated. Staying adequately hydrated enables our bodies to function at their best, yet nearly 75 percent of Americans are chronically dehydrated without ever knowing it.

Dehydration can sneak up on you!

Around two-thirds of your body is made up of water, and your brain alone is 75% H₂O! That means even a tiny dip in hydration — just 2% — can mess with your short-term memory, make simple math feel like rocket science, and leave you staring blankly at your screen or book. On top of that, dehydration is the sneaky culprit behind midday fatigue, headaches and muscle cramps. Not exactly the recipe for enjoying this beautiful weather, right?

Tips for staying hydrated

  • Limit liquids known to have dehydrating effects: These include sugary drinks, energy drinks, coffee, tea and alcohol.
  • Staying hydrated is easier when your water tastes great. Kinetico has filtration systems that protect against a large amount of microbiologic and inorganic contaminants that can be harmful to your health. Some contaminants actually work against the benefits of being hydrated.
  • Sip water throughout the day. If you wait until you feel thirsty, you may already be slightly dehydrated. Keep a reusable water bottle handy as a reminder to drink more liquids.
  • Eat foods with high water content. Watermelon, cantaloupe, cucumbers and strawberries are also tasty ways to cut calories.
  • Add variety by flavoring your water. Fruit-infused water is a great way to change things up.
  • Set a daily hydration goal.  You may want to track your intake until good hydration becomes a habit.

Beverages just taste better with ice

During the warmer months, there’s simply nothing more refreshing and thirst quenching than a beverage poured over ice! We’re often asked, “Will a Kinetico® K5 reverse osmosis system improve the quality of my ice?”

Here’s the answer.

Reverse osmosis will give you clearer ice and the taste will improve. There will also be fewer contaminants in your ice.

Is your ice still a little cloudy? That may be because air pockets are being created in your ice as it freezes.

Does your ice still taste funny? Keep in mind that your icemaker may still pick up tastes and smells from your fridge. So, you might want to make sure your freshly chopped onions are tightly sealed before you store them. Routinely removing old, outdated foods from your fridge may also help.
