In most cases, the sound is perfectly normal. It’s the regeneration process, when water flows through the softener to clean the resin and prepare it for continued use. Kinetico water softeners regenerate based on your household’s actual water usage, so this can happen at any time, day or night. A typical regeneration cycle lasts about 30–60 minutes. If the noise continues for much longer or repeats unusually often without high water use throughout the house, check the system to make sure it has completed regeneration and nothing else is going on.
