Low water pressure

One symptom of your filters needing to be changed is that your water pressure decreases. This is true for a water softener prefilter (noticeable throughout the house) and a drinking water system having low pressure at the drinking water faucet. If filters have been changed lately and shut off valves and bypasses are all in on position, give our team a call to set up a check up to assist.

How do I turn off my drinking water system?

Kinetico drinking water systems do not have a by-pass valve. If needed, the water supplied to the unit will have to be shut-off. Follow the line from the drinking water system to where it ties into the other plumbing. Normally that is where the shut-off is. If you need further assistance locating the shut-off, please contact your dealer.

How often should I change my filters? How will I know when?

How long a MACguard Filter cartridge will last depends on your drinking water usage. It could last anywhere from a few months to a few years. An average family of four with average drinking water use can expect the cartridge to last approximately nine months to one year. What should I expect right after my reverse osmosis is installed?

After a new reverse osmosis system is installed, it’s recommended to empty the first full tank of water. About 2–3 hours after installation, open the RO faucet and run it at a trickle until the tank is empty. Within another 3 hours, you’ll have a fresh full tank to enjoy. If you notice any sediment in the water, flush the tank again — this harmless residue can occur while new filters are fully saturating.

What regular maintenance is needed for my system?

Each Kinetico system has regular maintenance recommendations in their corresponding owners manuals. For a softener this could include regular filter changes and adding salt to your brine tank in a frequency depending on your water quality. For drinking water systems it is recommended to change your filters at a mimimum yearly and to sanitize your system. Specialty filters may require periodic media rebedding.

What is the difference between a water softener and a water filter?

A water softener removes hardness minerals like calcium and magnesium that cause scale buildup, spots, and soap scum — improving cleaning and protecting your plumbing and appliances. A water filter removes or reduces contaminants such as chlorine, lead, sediment, and other impurities to improve the safety and taste of your drinking water. Many homes benefit from having both, so you get soft water throughout the house and clean, great-tasting water at the tap.  Watch our video on Drinking Water vs Soft Water to get more details.
