What is causing my cold water to smell?

Cold water odors can come from several sources. Metallic smells may be caused by iron, sulfur smells by hydrogen sulfide gas, and chlorine odors from municipal treatment. New wells, homes, or water softener installations can make pre-existing issues more noticeable. Water softeners don’t create or remove odors on their own, but pairing them with the right filtration can eliminate smells and improve water quality. Our team can test your water, find the cause, and recommend the right solution. Our team can help identify the cause and suggest additional filtration if needed. Schedule a consultation for personalized solutions.

Why does my water smell like rotten eggs?

The “rotten egg” smell is often caused by hydrogen sulfide gas, which can naturally occur in groundwater or result from bacteria or chemical reactions in water heaters. It may affect well water or develop within water systems. Persistent odors can be resolved. Contact us to analyze your water and recommend solutions to eliminate the smell.

Why does my water taste metallic or look rusty?

A metallic taste or reddish-brown tint in your water is often caused by iron. It can come from natural minerals in well water, corrosion of old pipes, or rust particles from your plumbing or water supply. While small amounts of iron are not usually harmful, they can stain laundry and fixtures, and make water taste unpleasant. Testing your water will confirm the cause and help determine if an iron filter or other treatment is needed.

Why does my water appear to have a tint and/or black specks in it?

Run the cold water from the faucet closest to your whole home filter until it clears. If the issue is with hot water, drain your water heater. Occasionally, a new treatment system may take time to saturate fully, causing temporary discoloration. If discoloration persists after flushing, bypass your system and contact us to schedule a service visit for further investigation.
