How do I set the timer and adjust settings of the unit?

You don’t! With a Kinetico non-electric softener, you will have 24/7 soft water that regenerates on demand. No clocks or timers to set or adjust! Do you host guests over the summer or holidays? A Kinetico will work to keep up with the extra demand without missing a beat. Do you travel often or are you a snowbird? How do I manually regenerate my Kinetico water softener?

Using a No. 2 Phillips screwdriver, push down firmly on the softener valve screw and slowly turn clockwise until the actuator has advanced the indicator dot to the “BRINE” position. You should hear at least five “clicks” while turning the screw before the indicator dot reaches the “BRINE” position. At this point you should hear water begin to run through the system. If you do not hear water running through the system, the indicator dot has not been advanced far enough. Repeat the procedure for manual regeneration after the water flow stops (11 to 90 minutes, depending on the model)

Why is my softener not using salt?

When was salt last added? Does your water seem hard? Has it ever seemed like it’s used salt? Check that the system is in service at your bypass. You can use a piece of painters tape to mark the level of the salt and check in a couple of weeks if the level seems to have changed. If your water seems hard, contact our team to schedule a system check up.

Why does it feel like I can’t rinse the soap off my skin when I wash with soft water?

When you wash in soft water, your skin feels the way it should: clean, refreshed and silky smooth. With hard water, soap reacts with minerals to form a stubborn residue that’s tough to rinse off. That “squeaky clean” feeling is actually your skin sticking due to leftover soap film. Soft water rinses away soap and shampoo more effectively, leaving no residue behind. The silky feeling you notice is simply your skin’s natural oils, no longer blocked by hard water buildup. After installing a water softener, you’ll also find you need less soap, shampoo and detergent, since they’re no longer working

How do I know when it’s time to add salt to my water softener and how much do I add?

Lift the lid off the brine tank to check the salt level. If you can see water at the bottom, it is time to add salt. You can add salt any time there is enough room to accommodate at least one bag. However, take note that keeping the brine tank completely full of salt can contribute to salt bridging, which prevents the softener from regenerating properly. For a standard size brine drum, we recommend not to exceed 2/3 of its capacity. If you have a smaller size brine drum (short and square vs. round) it is ok to fill it
